Baby gates for split level

Baby gates for split level home are possibly the hardest gates to find. These types of homes have two set of stairs that are frequently used and are often in the middle of the house. This probably means for most families with small children that they are a constant problem. When babies are just learning to crawl they want to go everywhere and explore everything. It is not until a child is close to 2 years old do they really get the concept of stairs. Until a child reaches that state of understanding, stairs are a hazard which means baby gates for split level homes are a must.

Options in baby gates for split level

There are many types of baby gates for split level homes available on the market today. Gates can be found in many different styles and are built to serve many different areas of the home. It is important to determine the size and purpose of the gate before purchasing. For special needs such as a very wide door way an extra wide retractable baby gate would be a good choice. When there is a particularly awkward door way or space in the house that needs to be gated, a more flexible gate made of mesh netting may be a good choice. However, this type of gate may not be a good idea for the top of the staircase. A mesh gate at the top of the stairs may not be safe for a toddler who needs support to stand. A better option would be a gate made wood.

Wooden baby gates for split level homes are great because often times the wood of the gate will match the woodwork of the home which makes the gate less noticeable. This is a desire of parents who want their home to have the same overall appearance as it did before they needed all the extra “kid stuff”. Another option for these parents would be the retractable baby gate. These types of gates roll up like a window shade and doing so are far less likely to be seen than the big plastic kind that often stick out like a sore thumb. Another popular choice in baby gates for split level homes would be the swing gate. This gate is commonly made out of metal or hard plastic and would great for the top of the stair case. If installed to swing down the stairs it does not require much space to open and close. Many of these types of swing gates can be opened and closed with one hand which really makes it convenient for parents of multiple children since they often times have a child on their hip.

For particularly difficult spaces the play yard type gates would be an excellent choice. These gates can be arranged to make a completely enclosed space or pen. Another way to use these gates would be to anchor the solid pieces to either side of the wall and install one opening door making it possibly the best baby gates for split level homes.

The Extra Wide Retractable Baby Gate

The extra wide retractable baby gate is a great choice for that extra wide door way. More often houses are being built with higher ceilings and huge archway door ways. In these newer houses the standard size baby gate is virtually useless. Previously finding a baby gate to suit this type of home was impossible but as with all the other baby companies, lately the manufacturers of baby equipment have started to make a larger variety of baby gates which makes it easy for new parents to find a gate that suits the needs of their home and their family. This includes baby gates made of different materials and different sizes. Baby gates are often made out of hard plastic, mesh material, metal or wood. This variety should be make it easy to find the right gate for every parent’s need.

Places to use The Extra Wide Retractable Baby Gate

The extra wide retractable baby gate is great for any room or door way in the house. It can be used to restrict the child from playing in the special sitting room of the house or too simply keep them out of the master bedroom. The baby gate can be used to contain the child to the area with the parent without the parent constantly getting up and re-directing the child to the desired area. Not only do baby gates offer convenience to parents but they also offer piece of mind that the child is not off exploring a new area that could potentially be harmful.

A more crucial use would be to use the extra wide retractable baby gate to keep children away from hazards such as a fireplace, stairs or chemicals. Often times when babies or toddlers are first learning to be mobile the stairs are hard to resist. This is just not a safe place for youngsters. They need to be under constant adult supervision when learning how to use the stairs. A baby gate is essential for when adults are not able to assist the child on the stairs. Areas like the fireplace are absolutely an unsafe area for young children. When an adult is not able to accompany the child in the room with a fireplace, a baby gate should be used to restrict the child from entering that room. Rooms with chemicals that are not locked up in a cabinet should be closed off by a baby gate also. Bathrooms or laundry rooms may contain such chemicals or harmful products. The extra wide retractable baby gate would be a great choice for these rooms.

Extra Wide Retractable Baby Gate Summary

What really makes the extra wide retractable baby gate unique is that it is so versatile. It can be used in many different types of door ways and because it retracts it can be almost completely hidden. The retracting also makes it easy to use in tight spaces. If noise is an issue, be sure to test out the gate before purchasing it. Often times these retractable gates can be quite noisy when opening and closing. Unlike the type of gates that swing open, the retractable gates do not need a huge area to open and close. The extra wide retractable baby gate is a must have!

Another great baby gate is the swing gate. The swing gate may possibly be the best gate on the market. This article will discuss where to use the gate, some features of the gate and a few of the different models of swing gates.

This gate can be used anywhere, as long as there is enough space to swing the gate open. Different models will obviously have different measurements but typically three feet is needed to properly swing open the gate. Although this gate may not be recommended for top of the stair use, it has been used on the top of the entry stairs in many split level homes. This gate is popular because of it’s convenience factor. The gate can stay attached to the wall while moving through it. No more unhooking, moving to the side, passing through and re-attaching. With the swing gate you unhook, pass through and hook again.

Not all, but most swing gates have the one hand open and close feature. This is the selling factor for many. Most gates require two hands to open and close. Swing gates with the one hand open and close feature allow the operator to perform other tasks with the free hand. Families with pets may use this gate and appreciate the open hand feature when carrying a child through the gated area where the pet is because of the fact that the adult would not have to put down the child to pass through the gate. Families without pets will also benefit from this feature when doing things such as carrying home groceries. This way the parent could enter the gated area without putting down the groceries to open the gate.

There are of course many different swing gate models in many sizes, colors and prices. The Regalo Easy-Step Metal Swing Gate sells for approximately forty dollars and although has the open hand open and close feature, it is not the easiest to operate. The popular family favorite is the The First Years All Clear Swing Gate which sells for about fifteen dollars more. This clear gate is very easy to install and operate. If chosen to not use as a swing gate it can be used as a stationary gate. You can’t go wrong with this gate!

Review the different models and find the gate that fits your needs and space. Keep in mind where the gate will be used and determine it’s primary purpose. Also price compare, gates found in stores may be cheaper on line and vice versa.

The common baby gate is fine for the common child, but if your little tot is a bit more mischievous than the rest, you will need a super duper gate. The extra tall baby gate is that super duper gate. There are a few different companies who manufacture this gate. The Bindaboo Hallway Security Gate, Tee Zed Extra Tall Walk-Thru Baby Safety Gate, and Summer Infant Sure and Secure Extra Tall Walk-Thru Gate are a few of the extra tall baby gates to be considered.

The extra tall baby gate is made of heavy duty metal and comes in either white or black. The gate is perfect for the climbing toddler. This extra tall gate measures 39 inches high, which will keep the little climber safe from the many hazards of the house. It is great for any doorway but it is not recommended for the top of stairs.
Most of these extra tall baby gates will fit openings from 28 inches to 39 inches wide. If this gate is for an extra wide doorway, there is another model that fits openings from 38 inches to 53 inches wide. With a doorway bigger than 53 inches, extensions can be added to the gate for more length. If the extensions are added to the extra wide gate it can be used in a door way 63 inches wide.

This gate is simple to use. It can be opened and closed with one hand. This is very useful if using the gate to keep pets away from a child. The child can be carried through the area by the adult and the adult will not have to put the child down when opening the gate.

Another great feature of the gate is that it automatically closes and locks. This feature is great for using the gate with children or pets. It is just simply a great feature. You do not have to take the time to stop and close and lock the gate, it does it for you automatically.

One of the best features of this gate is that it swings. Not only that, but it can swing in either direction. Swinging gates are the best kind of gates to have. Although they require enough space for the gate to swing open, they do not need to be stored away. Gates that have to be removed require a place to be store and can get knocked over, which could possibly result in injury. These features make this a great gate.

Whether looking for a baby gate for an extra wide doorway or a very small space, the retractable baby gate will solve your baby gate dilemma. This gate has many great uses and features. The retractable baby gate is commonly described as a roller. The gate does look like a window shade on its side. It is quite honestly the perfect baby gate.

The retractable baby gate is a problem solver for wide doorways. There are many different brands of retractable baby gates and their dimensions vary. Most extend from 42 to 72 inches wide and are 30 to 34 inches high, which will fit great in those unusual doorways. Obviously these gates are not to be used at the top of the stairs. The mesh material will not safely prevent a child from falling down the stairs. If the doorway is accompanied by stairs a heavy duty plastic swinging gate may be a better choice.

Another use for the retractable baby gate is for use in small spaces. Although the swinging open gates are popular and handy, they require a lot of space to swing them open. The pressure fitting or tension get is another popular gate but this gate must be stored away when not in use. The retractable baby gate requires no additional space to swing or store.

Arguably the best feature of this gate is the hiding factor. If there is no extra space to store a gate, the retractable gate is the gate to choose. The gate is made of high quality, sturdy, laminate polyester mesh so it simply rolls up and is out of the way. Again this is a great feature for small spaces. Also it is easy to hide the gate for guests or times when children are not present. Most baby gates can be opened and closed with one hand.

Installation of the gate is not the easiest. Most gates will require some tools and time to install. Although some gates claim they can be instantly reinstalled in another door way, it does not seem likely. Each gate has to be mounted on the wall and an additional bracket for the opposite side of the doorway for the gate to latch on. In addition to the hassle of installing, these gates are known to be quite noisy while retracting which can be a con for families with multiple children as this loud sound may wake a sleeping sibling. Consider these facts before choosing this baby gate.

The wooden baby gate is often described as the ideal baby gate for the top of the stairs. While this is true, there are yet more benefits for using the gate. It is a great alternative from the typical plastic gate. It provides a solid barrier from harm and is much more attractive than the plastic alternative.

Since the wooden gate is made of wood it seems it would be much more safe and durable than plastic. In addition to the solid wood, most wooden baby gate are re-enforced with steel. This is most likely the reason it is so often recommended for the top of the staircase. The wooden baby gate can be hardware mounted to the wall for even more stability. Safety is the whole reason for purchasing a baby gate, so why not get the safest gate out there.

It must be noted that this article is not in reference to the accordion wooden baby gate. The accordion gate is a wooden gate that has hinged strips of wood that are spread apart to span the width of the doorway. This gate was popular many years ago but companies stopped manufacturing these gates in the mid 80’s. This gate had major safety issues and was posed as a hazard rather than a safety device.

Most parents now days consider safety first when choosing a baby gate, but style is a close second. Not only does the wooden baby gate appear to be much more safe, it is much more eye appealing. Instead of having a white plastic gate sticking out like a sore thumb, the wooden baby gate can blend in with your home décor. Many wooden baby gates come in multiple finishes, making it easy to find a gate to fit your home. This makes it easy to make the baby gate with the trim, other furniture in the house or home décor.

Kidco G32 Wooden Angle-Mount™ Safeway® Safety Gate, SUMMER® SURE & SECURE™ DELUXE WOOD WALK-THRU GATE, Evenflo Position and Lock Wood Safety Gate and Evenflo Top of Stair Gate are a few of the more popular brands. These gates can be found in specialty baby stores, department stores or online. Most wooden baby gates range in price from $40 to $80. This is a small price to pay for a solid gate that will provide comfort to parents in knowing their child is safe. Before purchasing a baby gate, wooden or not, consider these facts.

Probably the most obvious spot to use a baby gate would be the top of the stairs. Naturally stairs can be a huge hazard for babies too young to walk; even toddlers who are just in the process of learning to walk should be guarded from the stairs and only use the stairs with direct supervision. It can be beneficial to use a baby gate at the top of the stairs for older children too if they are running or playing carelessly.

Likewise, the bottom of the stairs should also be guarded by a baby gate. Even doing something seemingly safe such as crawling up the stairs can be dangerous for small children. Infants or toddlers can easily be distracted by something, lose their balance and fall down the stairs while trying to crawl up. This is also useful at the bottom of the stairs for older children where safety is not the issue. The gate can be used to keep them out of a place the parents do not want to go. Rather than the parents constantly asking them to stay downstairs, simply put up the gate and eliminate the fight to keep them from going up.

Outside is another great place to use a baby gate. Multiple baby gates can be combined to replicate a “playpen”. These baby gates are commonly called super yards, play dens or play yards. This is a great tool to use for very young children who want to be outside but are not able to walk, but can crawl. Babies who can crawl can easily get into dangerous areas. These play yards can also be used around animals that should be kept away from directly contacting the children. This allows the children to be in the same room with them, yet still safe. In turn the play yard can also be used to hold the animal. Allowing the children to safely use the entire space and contain the animal from harming the child.
