The Swing Gate
Another great baby gate is the swing gate. The swing gate may possibly be the best gate on the market. This article will discuss where to use the gate, some features of the gate and a few of the different models of swing gates.
This gate can be used anywhere, as long as there is enough space to swing the gate open. Different models will obviously have different measurements but typically three feet is needed to properly swing open the gate. Although this gate may not be recommended for top of the stair use, it has been used on the top of the entry stairs in many split level homes. This gate is popular because of it’s convenience factor. The gate can stay attached to the wall while moving through it. No more unhooking, moving to the side, passing through and re-attaching. With the swing gate you unhook, pass through and hook again.
Not all, but most swing gates have the one hand open and close feature. This is the selling factor for many. Most gates require two hands to open and close. Swing gates with the one hand open and close feature allow the operator to perform other tasks with the free hand. Families with pets may use this gate and appreciate the open hand feature when carrying a child through the gated area where the pet is because of the fact that the adult would not have to put down the child to pass through the gate. Families without pets will also benefit from this feature when doing things such as carrying home groceries. This way the parent could enter the gated area without putting down the groceries to open the gate.
There are of course many different swing gate models in many sizes, colors and prices. The Regalo Easy-Step Metal Swing Gate sells for approximately forty dollars and although has the open hand open and close feature, it is not the easiest to operate. The popular family favorite is the The First Years All Clear Swing Gate which sells for about fifteen dollars more. This clear gate is very easy to install and operate. If chosen to not use as a swing gate it can be used as a stationary gate. You can’t go wrong with this gate!
Review the different models and find the gate that fits your needs and space. Keep in mind where the gate will be used and determine it’s primary purpose. Also price compare, gates found in stores may be cheaper on line and vice versa.
